Last week (or should I say, last year) we looked some of the classic design trends that remain favourites every year. Now we are into 2018, and thoughts turn to a new kitchen, there are some features that we believe will still be fashionable throughout 2018 and way beyond as well.
Here are seven more kitchen design trends that are here to stay in 2018.
1. Clean-Lined Designs
Simple is still best when it comes to the overall kitchen design. The years of heavy moldings or overdesigned finishes are well and truly a thing of the past. The emphasis now is on no-frills kitchen designs; incorporating strong horizontal lines and simple, clean finishes. These kind of designs are still very popular and are proving highly enduring. It’s timeless and classic and will give you many many years of service.
2. Deep Drawers
The fashion for extra-deep drawers has now become an expected necessity in the modern kitchen. They are proving especially useful when placed next to the oven or hob to make cooking and storage effortless and easy.
The great advantage of deeper drawers is that they are considerably more accessible than typical base cabinetry and also very simple to integrate into a beautiful kitchen design. By adding drawer organisers, the deep drawers can be kept tidy neat as well.
3. Deep Sinks
The large deep practical sinks borrowed from old fashioned farmhouse style kitchens are still proving fashionable for the simple reason that they are so useful.
The emphasis on sink trends is definitely function. Large deep sinks with a single bowl contain splashes while also being able to accommodate large pots and pans or other items that require hand washing.
The only disadvantage many of them have is that they don’t provide space for a draining board, often a must in many households.
4. Open Shelving
Another feature borrowed from the farmhouse style kitchen, open shelving allows easy access and a clean, new look. Converting shelving units to open shelving is a simple process and has the added advantage of making the kitchen feel more spacious.
5. Silver Finishes
Finishes for kitchens come and go, but polished silver is forever! Whether it’s hardware, taps, shelf brackets or any other feature, polished chrome or nickel gives a sense of quality that always endures.
The great thing about polished silver finishes is that they go with almost any other colour and style.
6. Stainless Steel
When it comes to appliances, stainless steel continues to reign supreme. Coming from professional and commercial kitchen roots, stainless steel is a neutral colour that is easy to integrate into any style or colouring.
The commercial background gives the feel of rugged practicality and durability.
7. Wooden (Wood look-alike) Floors
Wooden flooring has kept many kitchens feeling warm and cosy for generations. This isn’t going to change.
Other flooring materials can deliver the same wood effect for less. There are porcelain planks that look like wood, provide the same inviting style, but are much easier to maintain. As well as more cost effective solutions too.
Whatever design choice you go for, the quality of the design and the materials is vital to make sure you get exactly what you need, practical, functional and a space that conforms to your needs.
