When is the Best Time of Year for a Kitchen Redesign?

Autumn, winter, spring or summer — when’s the best time to work on a new kitchen in Cheshire and South Manchester?

Choosing the right time of year

The true answer is: “Any time is the right time, as long as you’re ready to do it.” But for many people, choosing the right time of year to start a building project, such as a kitchen redesign is important, because of family issues, personal holidays, the weather etc.

One thing we can be sure of in Cheshire and South Manchester is that the weather will not be very kind no matter what time of year you choose. However, it is true that some periods are better than others for the different phases of jobs, as well as for cost-savings.

With that in mind, here are our views on the advantages and disadvantages of certain months, and seasons.

New Year – January-March

Despite the thought of working outside in the cold winter months, this can actually be a good time to start a project. The weather can often be very wet, but as long as you don’t extra foundations dug, you will find that the winter months tend to be less busy for builders. Most people are feeling short in the pocket after Christmas so wait for spring to start their home projects. This can be to your advantage, and there is also something fun about starting the new year with a good project!

Spring Work – April-June

Spring is traditionally the building season, so this is usually the busiest time of year for builders. It’s also when you’ll probably pay the most money for their time and for materials. Not only have are consumers are finding the money to do projects, but also because it’s the time we start to come out of winter hibernation and want something new.

Summertime – July-September

Tackling indoor work like kitchen or bathroom remodeling is recommended during the summer months. This is the time of year, when having the kitchen out of action, doors open and outside digging work going on isn’t so much of a problem.

If you are going away on holiday, it might be a great time to plan your kitchen redesign, while you and your family will be away. You can avoid all the unpleasant inconveniences of living with a renovation and come back to a brand new addition.

Autumn –  October-December

For most people, the nights drawing in and Christmas on the horizon means that this is the time of year when they want any building work to be completed and finished. The Impending Christmas holidays are a looming deadline for builders, and there’s a scramble to get things done by mid-November.

If you’re willing to have builders in your home during this season, this is a good time to schedule anything from an addition to a kitchen remodel. Business is slower for contractors and materials may be less expensive. However, shipping may take longer, so work those extra days into your timeframe.

General Timing Concerns for Kitchen redesign

In general, wet weather is the least desirable for any kind of building work. Although an interior redesign can take place any time, you can be confident that the builders we use will respect the home at all time.

In addition, some planning time is necessary. Don’t decide in January to put go for a new kitchen and expect a contractor to start in February. The builder will need time to plan, order materials and schedule the team.

We always several weeks for planning a new kitchen redesign, no matter what time of year. But we do always try to make sure that the work is finished when you want it and to your satisfaction.
