Sometimes a kitchen design idea may appear to be impossible to turn into reality, but at Euan Begg, we don’t believe it to be true. That’s why when Mr and Mrs Duckworth came to us with the challenge of making the best use out of a new open plan kitchen, dining and lounge space, we were more than happy to accept.
Mr and Mrs Duckworth approached us after being referred by their builder. We designed for them a painted, classic style kitchen with quartz worktops and flooring throughout. With the space we had to work with, we implemented a multi-functional kitchen island for the purpose of cooking and dining.
The walls and worktops were white, while the cabinets were a light grey, giving extra shape to the space. The cooker and oven were added to the kitchen island with a built in extractor fan above, while the side opposite served as a breakfast bar. Towards the window was space for family and formal dining.
The vintage wood effect of the flooring brings in a sense of warmth throughout this kitchen design, as well as working with the features in the room to create a welcoming environment. For more depth, the fridge freezer and seating were black, adding a dark contrast to complement the light features used in most of the space.
It was important to Mr and Mrs Duckworth that the open plan kitchen design provided a suitable family dining and living function. Though it was difficult at first to ensure there was enough space within the island for multi-functional purpose, as well as coordinating the ceiling extraction with the builder, but in the end it all came together.
As with many projects, it took a few meetings and conversations prior to putting the kitchen design plan into action. Doing this, however, is what makes our kitchens so accurate to the clients goals and ideas, as well as giving them a practical sense of what would work best for their lifestyle.
Knowing the balance of what the client wants and needs is essential when working with a smaller space, especially in an open plan environment. Once everything had been fitted and finished, Mr and Mrs Duckworth were beyond happy with the final outcome of their kitchen design and open plan space.
As you can see in the images, the final kitchen design is modern, bright and offers a sense of home comfort. We are grateful to Mr and Mrs Duckworth for allowing us to showcase this kitchen design and we think you will agree that it is most certainly a build which will be enjoyed for many years to come.
