Euan Begg Kitchens and Bathrooms was recently asked to undertake a brand new, unique project for a school in Keighley, Yorkshire. The school wanted a new set of teaching walls for four classrooms. It was a a first time for us, but a great opportunity to flex our creative design muscles.
Keighley School Requests Teaching Wall
EBKB were approached in late 2017 by a business networking contact, Egan Reid Office Supplies, to assist them with creating teaching resources for a school in Keighley in Yorkshire.
The school had some very specific requirements which necessitated a bespoke design and build, to give them exactly what they needed in the classrooms.
As our name suggests, we have traditionally been associated with delivering quality kitchens and bathrooms. But Euan has a range of experience in furniture design, and the school’s requirements were an excellent opportunity for him to express his wide range of furniture designing experience.
The school was looking for help from Egan Reid to install four teaching walls, which consisted of combined storage and presentation furniture for four classrooms. These were to be beech PVC edged MFC furniture with integrated whiteboards and shelves or drawers for storage.
Egan Reid supply a range of office materials and furniture, but it soon became clear to them that the particular requirements of the school demanded a bespoke design approach.
As no furniture exists that match the schools requirements, the design for the teaching walls needed to be completely bespoke from the start, in order to fit exactly into the classrooms, maximising the space for the teaching resource and requested storage space.
The additional spanner in the works was that all aspects of the furniture had to be easily assembled on-site, as there was not going to be an experienced fitting team available at the school to fit the furniture together, the workshop manufacturing the bespoke teaching wall furniture had to ensure that everything slotted together precisely.
Thankfully, with a clear design brief and excellent craftsmen to make the furniture, the design, delivery and onsite build went exactly to plan, with the school in Keighley getting the perfect resource that exactly matched their teaching needs.
A Unique Project Supporting Education
This project was a first for EBKB. We have never been asked to do this furniture before, but we think you will agree that the results are really excellent. The classrooms have two easy to use whiteboards and lots of shelf and drawer space. We are sure they will be getting good use already in the new school term.
The school are delighted with the end result, and we were delighted to be able to assist the work of an excellent school and helping to deliver excellent teaching resources to support the education of young people in Yorkshire.
It really was a unique project from start to finish, but hopefully, having done this one, there will be more to follow.
