Euan Begg Kitchens were very pleased to deliver a distinct, integrated kitchen and living space for Mr and Mrs Dykes in Sale, who wanted to remodel their internal space as part of an extension.
We were recently contacted by Mr and Mrs Dykes who were looking to remodel their kitchen into a new space as part of an extension. We were recommended to them by their existing building contractor to help them design their kitchen to their perfect requirements.
Their lovely detached home in Sale had many existing features, but Mr and Mrs Dykes were keen to expand their kitchen to become more than just a cooking space. Like many modern kitchens, this was to be a kitchen and diner, as well as living and utility space.
The key for Mr and Mrs Dykes was integrating the kitchen space with a living space. The kitchen they were looking to install was a painted shaker style kitchen with matching units. All the units were to be bespoke. But there was the added complication of a need to take away cooking fumes from the hob in the new design. Flooring was to be added throughout, and there was to be a utility space as well that needed to be large enough to house the white goods and units Mr and Mrs Dykes wanted out of the kitchen, but on hand to use.
As usual, we met with the couple to work through their initial thoughts and help them create their wishlist of design features and utilities they needed. We always like to have initial meetings before we draft any plans, and it is normal for plans to change considerably as we work through the design process.
This was certainly the case with this design process. It took 7 designs to arrive at the finished result, as Mr and Mrs Dykes wanted to explore the many different options at their disposal, to ensure their kitchen worked for them.
For us, this is perfect. We would always prefer to take time and get the design right, rather than push a client to agree on a design that won’t work for them in the long run.
With this build, walls were moved at the last minute to increase the size of the utility room. This was much needed by the couple, but the result was that it reduced the size of the kitchen, and fundamentally changed the design. We overcame this by replacing a stand-alone island with a peninsular.
When the final kitchen was delivered, fitted and signed off, Mr and Mrs Dykes were delighted with the results, and we were pretty pleased with ourselves too.
As you can see in the accompanying pictures, the design is clean, contemporary and perfectly suited to the space. We were thrilled that Mr and Mrs Dykes allowed us to showcase this build.
We think you will agree, they certainly got a kitchen to be proud of.
